Root Canals at Your Vancouver Dentist

Table of Content

At Vancouver Dental Spa, we perform a root canal as a treatment used to repair or save a severely harmed or infected tooth. The treatment includes getting rid of the broken area of the tooth (the pulp), cleaning and disinfecting it, and filling and sealing it. The typical reasons for an infected pulp are a crack in the tooth, a deep cavity, repeated dental treatment on the tooth, or trauma.

What To Expect During a Root Canal?

If you think you need a root canal, consult your Vancouver dentist. There are a number of steps that occur over a few office visits.

  1. X-ray: if a dental professional suspects you require a root canal, they will first take X-rays or examine existing X-rays to show where the decay is located.
  2. Anesthesia: local anesthesia may be administered to the affected tooth.
  3. Pulpectomy: an opening is made, and the pulp is removed from the diseased tooth.
  4. Filling: the roots that have been opened (to get rid of the diseased pulp) are filled and sealed.

How Do I Know If I Need a Root Canal?

It can be difficult to spot yourself if you need a root canal. During the early stages of a problem, your Victoria dentist can determine if there is an issue before further problems occur. That is why regular dental appointments are so important for your overall oral health.

If you don’t get to the dentist to spot a problem before it escalates, you may develop an infection and need to undergo a root canal.

Here are six signs to watch for that may indicate you need a root canal:

  • Persistent Pain
  • Chipped or Cracked Teeth
  • Sensitivity to heat or cold
  • Swollen gum area
  • Discoloration of the tooth
  • Prolonged Sensitivity

If you experience any of the above signs or discomfort, please do not hesitate to give our office a call. When dealing with a root canal, the sooner you get treatment, the better. If you have any further questions or would like to set up an appointment, give us a call today.
